FULDA —Paige Baker and Lexi Rust had eight kills apiece and Ellen Dahl added seven as the Luverne Cardinals won in a sweep Thursday night in high school volleyball action. Game scores were 25-13, 25-16 and 25-19.


Erica DeBoer led the Cards with 13 digs while Rust and Ashley Olson each had 10.

In serving, Olson was 17-for-20 with three aces. Dahl was 15-for-16 with one ace and Amanda Barnhart was 14-for-15 with one ace.

Olson had 28 sets and 10 set assists. Nicole Kneip had three block assists.

For Fulda, senior Alli Vanden Bosch provided seven blocks and Courtney Tiesler had 16 digs and was a perfect 8-for-8 serving with three aces.

Luverne moves to 10-11-2 on the season.

Minneota 3, Windom Area 0

WINDOM —Minneota swept Windom Area on the Eagles’ home floor. Set scores were 25-16, 25-19, 25-15.

Jasmine Carlson had three aces and was 9-of-11 serving for Windom. She had 12 digs. Rachel Sorensen was 6-of-7 with two aces and had a team-best seven kills. Michaela Hacker also had seven kills and had a hand in three blocks. Miki Bolin had 16 set assists for the Eagles, who finish their regular season Monday night at Blue Earth Area.

“We played a solid team tonight, and they are number one in the state according to some. They are very balanced and have five outstanding hitters,” Windom Area coach Ron Wendorff said about Minneota. “Our kids came out and competed hard tonight.”

Sheldon 3, George-Little Rock 0

SHELDON, Iowa —Sheldon kept its mark of just three losses intact, improving to 26-3 with a quick sweep over George-Little Rock.

The Orabs needed less than an hour to complete their work, winning their sets 25-15, 25-11, 25-12.

Sheldon senior Jessica Van Beek had a dozen kills to lead the Orabs to their win. She had three aces and led the team defensively at the net with three blocks. Kayla Johnson had 18 digs for Sheldon.

Sheldon will compete in Algona in a tournament on Saturday, facing several formidable Class 3A opponents. The Orabs will begin postseason play, hosting Estherville-Lincoln Central on Monday night, Oct. 28.

George-Little Rock begins its postseason run this Monday at West Sioux, Hawarden and ends the regular season at 5-24.
