Man arrested for arson
WORTHINGTON -- A 58-year-old man was arrested for first-degree arson following a Saturday afternoon house fire.
The Worthington Fire Department responded to the fire at 3:10 pm. Saturday on Diagonal Road, according to Fire Chief Rick Von Holdt. There were two people in the home when the fire started in a bedroom. Firefighters were able to quickly get the blaze under control.
"We were there probably a half hour to 45 minutes," said Von Holdt, adding that the fire did minimal damage to the home. "It was kind of contained to the bedroom -- a little bit of smoke damage and water damage -- but it was mostly contained to the bedroom."
The occupants of the home were displaced, and the Red Cross was called for assistance. Sgt. Tim Gaul reported that the Worthington Police Department also responded to the fire.
"After responding to the call, a 58-year-old man was investigated and arrested for first-degree arson and is currently being held in the Worthington jail," Gaul said.
The case is currently still under investigation, and charges will be filed through the Nobles County Attorney's Office.
