Marcella "Sally" Heger

Marcella Rita "Sally" (Bartosh) Heger, 91, passed away April 14, 2014, at Sanford Hospital after suffering an unexpected stroke. Sally was born in Jackson County, LaCrosse Township on December 6, 1922, to the late Carl and Monica (Freking) Bartosh. Sally grew up in Heron Lake, MN, with her 9 siblings who are forever grateful for her mothering of them after their mother, Monica, passed away when Sally was only 17. Sally attended the Sacred Heart Catholic School and attended one year at Heron Lake High School.

Sally married Raymond J. "Fritz" Heger 70 years ago on September 30, 1943, in Oceanview, VA, while he was stationed there for Naval training. Sally returned to the Dundee/Heron Lake area while Fritz was at sea during WWII. She delivered their first son 5 months before Fritzs return home. They lived and farmed outside of Dundee until 1955 when they purchased their own farm just north of Lime Creek. Side by side they farmed for 32 yearsit was very common to see Sally out in the fields on the tractor helping to care for their land, tending her large garden, and raising chickens in addition to being the most wonderful, loving mother to her 4 children. In 1987 they moved to a home located on the north side of Fulda Lake. Sally enjoyed the entertainment of the activities she could view from her kitchen window taking place on the lake. In 2011 Sally and Fritz downsized and moved to their Mapleview Estates apartment. No matter the stage of her life, Sally was passionate about entertaining and enjoying all guests who stopped by to visit. Family, friends, whoever stopped by were invited for coffee and one of her delicious sweet treatspies, kuchen, caramel rolls, or cookies! Sally was the happiest when her family was all together enjoying one another! She never had any favoritesshe had boundless love for her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! She never forgot to send any of them a card for their birthday and holidays! Together Sally and Fritz enjoyed traveling to 48 of the 50 United States. In the community Sally was involved for many years with the St. Mary Catholic Church (Dundee) and St. Gabriel Catholic Church (Fulda) Ladies Aid, VFW Auxiliary (Fulda), American Legion Auxiliary (Dundee), Murray County Extension Group, and Bondin Belfast 4H Club.

Sally is survived by her loving husband Fritz, her children and their spouses, Richard "Skip" and Kathy (Luehmann), Boca Raton, FL, Gene and Linda (Miranowski), Stillwater, MN, Steve and Tawnie (Colby), Kalispell, MT, and Mary and Bob Sejnoha, Algonquin, IL. Their 4 children provided them with 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her siblings Josephine, Bernard, and Charles, and grandchildren Robb Heger and Mary Marcella Sejnoha.

Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monday, April 21, 10:30am with Fr. Vogel officiating. Pallbearers include grandchildren Erik Heger, Tiffiny Grossbauer, Abby Tobias, Dustin Heger, Travis Heger, and Paul Sejnoha; Honorary pallbearers include Kim Ampudia and Maria Sejnoha. Interment will be at St. Gabriels Catholic Cemetery, Fulda, MN

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at the Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Sign guestbook online at
