Marilyn Kay Taarud

Marilyn Taarud was born on June 23, 1930 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Clarence and Gladys Petersen Taarud. In 1936 the family move to Slayton, MN. While in high school, Marilyn worked at Worthmore Creamery in Slayton. Marilyn graduated from Slayton High School in 1950. She then worked for a short time at Art Olson Photo Studio before going to work for her parents at the Tarrud Service Station in Slayton. Her parents sold the business in 1974 but Marilyn continued working for the new owner, Glen Litner until 1977. Marilyn then worked at Ampride in Slayton for several years before she started working at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton answering telephone and office sitting. She retired in 2006. In 2010 Marilyn moved to Sunrise Terrace in Slayton. Marilyn passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 84. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and was active with the quilting group. Marilyn enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, fishing, sewing and watching all sports.

Survivors include one brother-in-law, Wally Scott of Slayton, MN, one niece, Robin Hemmingsen and her husband, Mark (George) of Slayton, MN, one great-niece, Lori Scarset and her husband, Jonah and their two children Lauren and Isaac all of Red Wing, MN and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Donna Scott, nephew, Chuck Scott and great-nephew, John Hemmingsen.

Memorial services will be at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens Slayton, MN.
