Marjorie Jean Johnson
Marjorie "Marge" Jean Johnson, age 84, was born on March 9, 1930, in Mitchell, SD, the daughter of Lester and Margaret (Potter) Wick. At the age of nine, she moved with her parents to Worthington, MN and her parents opened Wick Jewelry Store. Marge graduated from Worthington Senior High School in 1949.
Marge married George B. Johnson, of Heron Lake, MN, on June 12, 1949, at the First Methodist Church of Worthington. They began their married life in Heron Lake where she worked as a waitress at Sieves Caf and also at the grocery store. Marge and George moved to Worthington in 1953 and she worked at Thoms Hardware Store and Johnsons Bakery. When her daughters were old enough to attend school, Marge worked in the cafeteria at Central Grade School. She also worked at We Care Day Care and babysat children in her home.
In the late 1970s, she went to Marshall and Mankato Universities during the evenings and summer and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. With her degree she opened the daycare at the Worthington Community College. Marge was also an instructor for ECFE and she finished her teaching career at the Brewster school district as a pre-school teacher.
Marge was an active member of her church, serving as a Sunday school teacher for the nursery, bible school teacher, sang in the choir, and was on many committees. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and UCT and was a Girl Scout leader and received many awards. She loved to play Yahtzee, knit, sew, go to plays and city band concerts, and was an excellent baker.
Marge passed away and went to heaven in the early hours on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN.
Marge is survived by her husband, George of Worthington, MN; two daughters, Cindy (Jahan) Gharibvand of Broken Arrow, OK and Robyn M. Silver of Worthington, MN; two granddaughters, Amy Shaheen Gharibvand of Broken Arrow, OK and Ashley Sheva (Brian) Venable of Columbia, SC; two brothers, Harold Wick of Willmar, MN and Louis Wick of Aurora, MO; one sister, Eileen (Kevin) Hausman of Aurora, MO, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gordon L. Wick, and nephews, Ron Wick and Kevin Wick.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
