Maylon Garth Muir, 88, a longtime resident of Jackson, passed away on July 20,2014, in Rochester, MN. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August

9, 2:00 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Rochester. The Rev. Phil Webb and Rev. Laurene LaFontaine will preside over the service.

Maylon was born September 24, 1925, to Garth and Mabel (Madsen) Muir. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1944. He served in the Army during

World War II on an air crew transporting the wounded from the continent to England. Upon discharge, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, School of Law where, in 1952, he received his JD. He then joined E.H. Nicholas in the

practice of law in Jackson. During his career he added eight lawyers to his firm and established offices in Lakefield, Heron Lake, Windom and Mountain Lake.

He focused his practice mostly on transactional matters in probate and real estate. He served as Jackson County attorney from 1963 to 1974.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson volunteering his time as an officer in the churchs Presbytery & Synod. Maylon's community service

was tireless as he touched the lives of so many in the community while serving as a Sunday school teacher, founder of the Jackson Development Corporation, bank director, and County Attorney.

He enjoyed his summer cabin on Spirit Lake for over 30 years. Upon retirement, he spent several winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. He loved to travel and visited every continent except Antarctica.

He is survived by his sister, Ardis Farris of Rochester; brother, Niel (Carole) Muir of Sebring, Florida; several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert "Vron" Muir; sister, Bonnie Lindberg; Brothers-in-law, LeMar "Lindy" Lindberg and James Farris; nephew Douglas Elness; and niece, Teresa (Muir) Wells.
