McGrane joins Fareway as grocery manager
WORTHINGTON — Fareway Food Store’s new grocery manager plans to continue the long-standing quality local services that Fareway has offered to Worthington since opening its doors in 2009.
Damian McGrane, from Lime Springs, Iowa, has been with the company for 18 years. He was previously employed at Fareway’s Storm Lake, Iowa location.
“I started back when I was in high school with Fareway, and took a little break when I attended college,” McGrane said. “But when I graduated, I realized this is what I wanted to do.”
McGrane graduated from Iowa State with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. Soon after, he accepted the assistant manager position at Fareway in Storm Lake.
McGrane and his wife, who is originally from Decorah, Iowa, and their three children — now ages 16, 10 and 5 — had been living in Storm Lake until he got the manager position in Worthington in November.
“When I got the offer for the manager position in Worthington, I had to take it,” McGrane said. “My wife and kids are currently still in Storm Lake, where my wife has a job in retail. This gives her some time to find a job up here, and my kids are able to finish out the winter semester at school before transferring them.”
McGrane plans to keep growing the Worthington store and continue providing the customer experience he believes people love.
“I honestly do believe we have superior service,” McGrane said. “From our full-service carry-out to our full-service meat counter where customers can pick their cut of meat, have it cut however they want and have it packaged however they want ... and I believe our price matching is unbeatable.”
Fareway, like many stores, offers a price matching guarantee, but the company takes it another step further.
“Most stores, you have to bring in the advertisement and show it when you check out,” McGrane said. “Well, at Fareway, we already go through the advertisements of our competitors and change them for you. Customers are basically getting a three-in-one store because they are guaranteed the lowest price.”
While McGrane hasn’t been in Worthington very long, he plans to make it his home and to explore more of the community.
“I’m in the process of purchasing a home here in Worthington for me and my family, and I just look forward to seeing more of Worthington,” he said.
