Kareed Williams earned a decision at 125 pounds to start off the night for West. Jared Nickman (165) and Ben Goodwin (174) each earned decisions to round out West’s winners.

While Michael Tanner lost at 141 pounds and Josh Valandra lost at 285 pounds, West wrestling coach Bob Purcell said he was most pleased with Valandra’s match.

“We didn’t wrestle that well. I thought our best wrestler on the night actually was our heavyweight, even though he lost,” Purcell said. “We won three out of the five, though, and so you have to take the wins and be happy with them.

“Ellsworth is a tough Division I junior college. They won our district tournament last year.”

The Bluejays travel to Istaca Community College next Wednesday in Grand Rapids.
