MOORHEAD - Moorhead police say a 24-year-old man fled police on his motorcycle Sunday, reaching an estimated speed of more than 90 mph before crashing the bike onto its side.

According to a news release from Sgt. Toby Krone:

An officer attempted to stop a high-performance motorcycle for speeding at 3:40 p.m. in the 700 block of 12th Avenue South.

The motorcycle kept going and turned right on Fifth Street South, heading northbound at a high rate of speed estimated by the officer to be in excess of 90 mph. The officer stopped the pursuit and provided the last known direction and description of the motorcycle and driver.

The motorcycle turned eastbound on Main Avenue. A second patrol unit was in the 1000 block of Main Avenue when the motorcycle passed by and tried to turn right onto 11th Street South.

The driver, identified as Chad Michael Puckett of Moorhead, lost control and crashed the motorcycle onto its side.

He tried to flee on foot and was apprehended about a block away, the release said.

Puckett was arrested without further incident on suspicion of felony fleeing, felony DWI, fleeing on foot, driving after suspension and reckless driving.
