Once again, 4-H'ers be showcasing a variety of livestock and non-livestock projects during competitions scheduled for throughout the fair. In addition to the numerous 4-H events, there will be entertainment options all four days for fairgoers.

"We have the Divas through the Decade that we're excited about," Murray County Fair Board President Stan Larson said. "And, Boots and Britches are going to be here with their 1923 Model T camper. They are a comedy group, and they'll sing and entertain on Friday and Saturday."

Bill Bolin will give a presentation about the two-car accident that killed 12 people on the edge of Slayton. It remains the deadliest two-car crash in United States history.

At the time, Bolin lived in Slayton, where his father was the Ford dealer. At age 78, he still remembers the accident that happened near midnight on April 21, 1940.

"I was up all night," he said. "Even though I was young, I'll never forget it. They brought the cars to my dad's garage, and that vision is still with me today."

Since then, Bolin has had an interest in the events of that night and has interviewed many of the crash victims' family members. He has written articles about the accident and given presentations similar to the one he'll give at the fair.

"I'll talk about the accident, what it's been in my life and what I've learned," Bolin said of the talk, which is slated for 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Anita Gaul will also give a presentation about the history of the Murray County Fair at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
