Museum to open fire department exhibit
PIPESTONE -- The Pipestone County Museum is opening a new exhibit featuring the Pipestone Fire Department. The public is invited to view the exhibit beginning Saturday and throughout the next year.
This year is the 125th anniversary year of the Pipestone Fire Department, which was formed as a direct result of the first Calumet Inn burning in December 1886. On display is an original uniform, a more recent protective fire suit and several photographs of the fire department in action over the last 125 years. The highlight of the exhibit may be the circa-1900, man-pulled hose cart on display.
The Pipestone County Museum is housed in Pipestone's original City Hall building. Built in 1896, it was the first permanent home of the Pipestone Fire Department. The historical society recently installed replicas of the original fire hall doors to bring the building back to its original look.
Pipestone Fire Department, 125 Years! will run through 2013. For more information, the Museum can be contacted by writing to Pipestone County Museum, 113 South Hiawatha Avenue, Pipestone 56164, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (507) 825-2563.
