Name of alleged shooter released
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, a felony charge has been filed against Laura Jeanette Lowe, 51, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, in connection with the alleged shooting of Levi David Hofer, 50, of Rock Rapids, Sunday night.
Lowe is charged with attempted murder, a class B felony.
Larry Duane Griffin, 60, who lives in the basement of the residence shared by the suspect and victim, is being held in the Lyon County Jail as a material witness.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office released Hofer's name Monday, and stated he was still considered to be in critical condition in a Sioux Falls, S.D. hospital Monday afternoon.
According to information released Sunday night, the sheriff's office responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:15 p.m. Sunday on Tama Street. Upon arrival, authorities found a female with injuries and a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The woman was treated and released, but the male, Hofer, was flown to Sanford Hospital.
"Due to conflicting stories and information that conflicts with evidence, we have requested the State of Iowa crime scene lab to process the house," a release states regarding the crime scene.
Lyon County has also requested that the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) assist with the case.
