Names released in fatal boat crash
WORTHINGTON -- The Nobles County Sheriff's Office has released the names of the individuals involved in Monday's fatal watercraft crash on Lake Okabena.
According to Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening, the crash involved a Sea Doo jet ski operated by Ted Edward Kruger, 21, of Sibley, Iowa, and a Sea Doo four-person jet boat, operated by Marshall Thomas Doeden, 20, also of Sibley. There were two female passengers in the jet boat.
Ashley Ann Engel, 20, of Sioux Falls, S.D., was pronounced dead at the scene, and Tessa Rae Reit, 20, of Sioux Falls, was airlifted to Sioux Falls with unknown injuries.
Kruger was uninjured, and Doeden sustained minor injuries.
The crash happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. Monday about 200 yards from shore. Authorities and emergency medical personnel responded along the 1600 block of South Shore Drive. The Nobles County Sheriff's Office, Worthington Police Department, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Worthington Rescue and Worthington Ambulance provided assistance at the scene.
The Nobles County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
