Nobles-Murray Rural Electric awards funds to organizations
WORTHINGTON -- The Nobles-Murray Rural Electric Trust awarded $6,000 to local organizations on April 16.
These donations occur due to monthly contributions from Nobles Cooperative Electric (NCE) members who agree to have their electric bill rounded up to the nearest dollar. As a group, NCE members raise approximately $1,000 per month.
The Nobles-Murray Rural Electric Trust received a total of 29 applications. Through this people-helping-people program, 19 organizations received funding, along with eight $500 scholarships.
Since its beginning in 2001, the program has reached a milestone -- more than $165,000 has been awarded through NCE's Operation Round Up program.
The funds were awarded to these organizations: Adrian Public School; American Cancer Society -- Murray County Relay for Life; American Red Cross -- Southwest Minnesota Chapter; City of Balaton; Currie Fire Department; Fulda Fire Department; Grand Prairie Rockets 4-H Club ; Lake Wilson Fire Department; Mobile Meals of Worthington; Murray County/Fulda DAC; Murray County Historical Museum; Nobles County Historical Society; St. Paul's Lutheran School; The Achievement Center/Division of Hope Haven; Trinity Preschool; U of M -- 4-H Youth Development, Worthington; Worthington Composite Squadron Minnesota Civil Air Patrol; and Worthington Montessori School Inc.
The trust board has set Sept. 3 as the deadline for the next round of funding. The board will meet again Oct. 2 to review the applications.
