ElRay D. Abels of Rushmore, Minnesota passed away on Friday September 26, 2008 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday September 30, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmont, Mn. With Rev. Ken Honius officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Holman Township Cemetery at Sibley,Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00-8:00 pm at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley with the family present from 5:00-7:00 pm.

ElRay was born in Sibley, Iowa on February 2, 1933, the son of Fred J. and Anna "Klassen" Abels. He attended Sibley Schools. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

ElRay was united in marriage with Harriet J. DeWeerd of Sibley, Iowa on September 3, 1955 in Sibley. El Ray and Harriet farmed in the Sibley, Ocheyedan, Adrian, and Rushmore areas. They divorced in 1989 but remained friends.

He is survived by his wife Harriet of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Son Gary Abels of Brewster,Minnesota. Son Marvin Abels and his wife Marsha of Hartford, South Dakota, Daughter Linda VanderHagen of Lincoln, Nebraska, Son Brian Abels of Lincoln, Nebraska, Daughter Lisa Scholz and her husband Ron of Lincoln, Nebraska and Daughter Darla Ling and her husband Dave of Remier, South Dakota.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Two sisters Bernice Kimbale of Everett, Washington and Thelma Patrick of Sun City Arizona.

ElRoy was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Delbert and Robert 'Bob' Abels.
