Obituary: Laura Busch

Laura Busch was born on March 4, 1917 on a farm in Murray County, Minnesota to George and Lillie Morin Schaffer. Laura grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District #5. Before her marriage Laura worked for Dr. Williams as a housekeeper. On February 8, 1937 she and Donald Busch were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie. Following their marriage they farmed in Leeds Twp. Murray County, MN near Hadley for 48 years. They retired from farming in 1985 and moved to Slayton.

In 1997 they moved to Sunrise Terrace Apartments. Don passed away on July 7, 2001. In December 2004 Laura became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton and passed away there on September 2, 2008 at the age of 91. She was a member of St. Ann's Church and active in the W.C.C.W.

Laura was a charter member of the Court Queen Of Peace Catholic Daughters and the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club. Laura enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, gardening, quilting, playing cards, and crossword puzzles. Laura and Don both enjoyed dancing, playing scrabble and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include five children and their spouses; Marilyn and Hilary Barry of Lake Wilson, Maxine Davis of Mankato, MN, Myrna and Ralph Surprenant of Tracy, Nancy and Allan Woitaszewski of Worthington, and Jim Busch of Bedford, TX, one son-in-law, Donald Schmitz of Slayton, MN, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, one brother, Harold Schaffer and his wife, Verna of Slayton, MN, two sisters, Rosaline Pyle and her husband, Floyd of Oxnard, CA, and Lorraine Carlson of Garvin, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, daughter, Arlene Schmitz, one grandson, Jay Davis, one son-in-law, Charles Mickelson, infant sister, Leona Schaffer, three sisters, Louise Jens, Lila Shafer, and Alice Buse, and one brother, George Schaffer.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 5, 2008, at St. Ann's Church, Slayton, MN, with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. Interment is at St. Ann's Cemetery Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 PM with a 4:30 PM CDA Rosary and a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton.
