Obituary: Thelma Beech

Thelma Margaret Beech was born on December 6, 1927 in Lake Wilson, Minnesota to Ernest and Alida Habben Bloom. She grew up on the family farm and attended Cameron Twp. country school. In 1943 Thelma attended Cosmetology School in Mankato. On November 26, 1948 she and Gerald Beech were married at St. Ann's Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they farmed north of Slayton. Thelma ran the Wheel Inn Café in Slayton from 1965 to 1975 and again in 1989 to 1992 when she then sold the business. Thelma also worked as a hairdresser for many years. Gerald passed away on January 21, 1989. Due to failing health Thelma moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on May 12, 2008 and passed away there on October 21, 2008 at the age of 80. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton and served as chair of the annual church dinner and was active in the C.C.W. Thelma also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed cooking, going to coffee, snowmobiling, fishing, and playing cards. Thelma especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her seven children and their spouses, John and Mary Beech of Slayton, MN, Janice Webb of Brandon, SD, Joseph and Nancy Beech of Hendricks, MN, Judy and Don Determan of Slayton, MN, Jeffrey and Yun Hui Beech of Cornville, AZ, Jerome Beech of Marshall, MN, and James and Kris Beech of Battle Lake, MN, 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, seven brothers and sisters, Luella Smith of WA, Violet Sixta of Paynesville, MN, Velva Snyder of Waconia, MN, Earl Bloom and his wife, Ruth of Malmo, MN, George Bloom and his wife, Joyce of Slayton, MN, Virgil Bloom and his wife, Pat of TX, and Carol Snyder of Watertown, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gerald, infant son, Edward Beech, one grandson, Andrew Beech, infant brother, Dennis Bloom, infant sister, Isabel Bloom, two sisters, Isabel Widboom, and Norma Jean Beech.

Funeral Services: St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10:30 AM with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating, co-celebrants are Fr. Larry Brixius and Fr. Tim Biren. The pianist is Molly Bass. The song leader is Lavina Fox with special music by Dan Beech, Scott Beech, Katie Beech, Sam Beech, and Barry Kuball. The pallbearers are Katie Beech, Jackie Keil, Jerry Beech, Sheila Kuball, Patricia Beech, Jerica Beech, and Scott Beech. Interment is at St. Ann's Cemetery Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 24, 2008 at St. Ann's Church in Slayton from 4-7 PM with a CDA rosary at 4:30 PM and a prayer services at 7:00 PM.
