One dead in Lyon County crash, fire
LARCHWOOD, Iowa -- The identity of a victim killed in a crash and fire early Saturday morning near Larchwood has not yet been released by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, as they continue to work toward a positive identification of the individual.
The Larchwood Fire and Rescue were paged to the scene of a fire north of 1660 135th Street at approximately 5:14 a.m. Saturday. As they worked to extinguish the fire in approximately 30 round bales, they discovered the vehicle containing a single occupant.
A report issued by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office states the vehicle appeared to be eastbound on Iowa 9 prior to entering the north ditch and proceeding in a soybean field. The vehicle then crossed Iowa 9 and entered a corn field on the south side of the highway and continued south through the field until it struck the round bales.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Department and Iowa State Patrol continue to investigate the incident.
