One dead, several injured in I-90 crash
BEAVER CREEK -- A 14-year-old boy is dead after a crash that left three other children in critical condition, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash took place shortly after 4 a.m. this morning on Interstate 90 near Beaver Creek.
Daniel Davis, 14, of Hubbardston, Mass., was killed when the vehicle his mother was driving west on I-90 entered the north ditch and continued forward until it hit an embankment of the Rock County 6 bridge. According to the state patrol, the vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Durango, was sent airborne and the roof made contact with the pillar of the bridge. The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its wheels.
The mother, Pamela Roper, 43, was driving her six children from Massachusetts to a family gathering on the west coast. She was treated at a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital and released.
Laura Davis, 19, was treated and released, as was 4-year-old Joseph Davis. Amena Davis, 11, Cedric Davis, 9, and Seth Davis, 7, are listed in critical condition. The driver, oldest child and youngest child were the only ones wearing seatbelts.
Authorities closed part of the westbound lane of I-90 and detoured traffic onto the Beaver Creek exit for more than an hour while the crash was under investigation.
