Osceola County Fair kicks off Wednesday
SIBLEY, Iowa -- The 2013 Osceola County Fair will host a plethora of 4-H related events, as well as diverse entertainment, during its four-day run this week.
"We try to bring in grandstand shows that the whole family will enjoy," said Osceola County Fair Board President Steve Voss.
One new activity will bring out the musclemen of Osceola County.
"We are having an arm wrestling contest on Saturday, outside underneath a big tent," Voss noted.
A newer, popular activity that was started a few years ago provides a unique agricultural opportunity for Sibley-area children.
"The bottle bucket calf show, which was started by Kenny Goedken, has been growing in the past two or three years. Kids buy a baby calf in March or April, bottle feed it, and bring it up to ground feeds," explained Voss. "Kids who aren't in 4-H or are too young (younger than 10) can get involved in the fair at a young age.".
4-H activities include the projects on display in the 4-H building, from health and nutrition to mechanical engineering, and numerous animal shows of all kinds.
