Polzine lending a hand at Worthington's information center
WORTHINGTON -- Travelers between Worthington and Sibley are probably having some trouble lately -- and not just because of the detour.
The Worthington Information Center isn't where it used to be. As a result of road construction, the functions of the facility have been relocated to the edge of the Minnesota 60 detour, near the giant Minnesota statue.
Stop in at the trailer on the east side of the road -- Roxann Polzine will be glad you did.
"This is my first year here as the manager," said Polzine. "We normally have a nice, brick facility with plumbing. There are porta potties, and, if you ask me, these are cleaner than most public restrooms."
The Worthington Information Center is good for much more than just a well-kept place to relieve yourself, however. Polzine and her fellow employee, Denis Reed, are always brewing a fresh cup of coffee.
"People are always welcome whether they're lost or just looking for conversation," Polzine said.
If you are lost, or looking for travel advice, Polzine is there to offer advice.
"I've been in every corner of the state. I've taken County Road 1 border to border and the Mississippi from one end to the other. Being a part of the last census also helped me get to know this beautiful state even more," Polzine said.
Even if you already know how to get where you're going, Polzine will tell you what to do once you get there.
"Having seen just about everything Minnesota has to offer, I know many town holidays and special events that go on during particular times of the year," she continued. "Even if you think you know how to get where you're going, our computer software updates daily with road detours, motels, etc."
The Travel Information Center will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.
"We'll be having cookies, coffee, handing out maps and just having a good time," Polzine said.
The handicapped-accessible Worthington Information Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
"I love this wonderful state," Polzine said, "especially this area."
Take Nobles County 57 south, past Ocheda Dairy, hang a right at Nobles County 4, and go left on Minnesota 60.
