Gavin VanMoer tripled to the right-centerfield gap with two out in the bottom of the seventh and scored on a wild pitch, moving T-M-B to 2-3 on the season.

Carlson, who struck out 12 batters in a game on Monday, threw his off-speed pitches for strikes Friday to keep the Rebels off-balance. He allowed just one hit and walked three.

MCC’s Paul Mesner also pitched an outstanding game. He went the distance, allowing three hits while walking no one and striking out six.

Minneota 8, E/SWC 6

EDGERTON — It has not been a good week for Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian.

Tuesday, the Flying Dutchmen held a 7-3 lead going into the sixth against Murray County Central and wound up dropping an 8-7 heartbreaker. Friday, it was more of the same. E/SWC led 6-2 going into the sixth just to see the Vikings score four in the sixth and two more in the seventh to steal an 8-6 non-conference win.

Wyatt Butson gave the Flying Dutchmen 5 1/3 strong innings on the hill before the Minneota bats began to catch up with him in the sixth. Luke Drooger came on in relief and struck out the first man he faced; but the visitors cut the lead to 6-3 on a wild pitch shortly after. A two-run double got them within one before a throwing error tied it at 6-all.

A two-run single in the seventh proved to be the knockout punch in another tough loss.

Butson allowed three earned in the no-decision with Drooger taking the loss in relief. Tyus Janssen went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs to lead E/SWC at the plate. Luke Nibbelink came up with a 2-for-3 performance with two runs and two ribbies.

The Flying Dutchmen (0-5 overall, 0-3 Red Rock Conference) will host a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday.

Fairmont 14-11,

JCC 3-6

FAIRMONT — Jackson County Central’s struggles continued Friday as it dropped its eighth and ninth straight games to open the season.

The Huskies were swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Fairmont. The Cardinals got the run-rule win in the opener at 14-3 before JCC put up a little more of a fight in the nightcap, but ultimately lost 11-6.

The road won’t get any easier for the Huskies (0-9 overall, 0-5 Southwest Conference.) Next up for them is a 4 p.m. doubleheader against 7-1 Luverne on Thursday.
