ADRIAN -- Andrew Hirsch allowed one run, struck out four batters and walked one in three innings of work to get the win for the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines in an 11-6 victory over the Adrian Dragons Monday in the Red Rock Conference baseball opener for both teams.


The Dragons led 2-1 after two innings before the Wolverines scored three runs in the top of the third to go up 4-2. However, Adrian tied things up in the bottom of the innings with two runs of their own.

Both teams scored one run in the fourth to keep things evened up before going scoreless in the fifth. But then the Wolverines exploded for six runs in the sixth to ice the win.

Austin Watkins went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Wolverines, while Levi Jahnke was 1 of 2 with a three RBI double. Nathan Adrian started the game on the mound for Mountain Lake Area, pitching four innings while allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Tony Lynn was 2 of 4 for the Dragons on the day with a double and a triple to go along with a triple by Jordan Dingmann. Nick Reyne took the loss for Adrian after pitching two-thirds of an inning in the sixth and giving up six runs on five walks. Jordan Bertrand started the game for the Dragons.

Mountain Lake Area (1-0, 1-0) travels to Murray County Central Thursday, while Adrian (0-3, 0-1) travels to Heron Lake to take on Southwestern United Thursday.

Minneota/Lincoln HI 2

HERON LAKE -- Stuart Schumacher scored the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth to give the Southwestern United Wildcats their first win of the season in a game against Minneota/Lincoln HI Monday.

The Wildcats got on the board in the first inning when Erik Jass scored from third after hitting a triple earlier in the inning. Jass also hit in SWU's second run in the third on an RBI groundout to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

However, Minneota/Lincoln HI put up two runs in the fifth to tie the game at two.

Jacob Post picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats after pitching the final three innings. Isaac Josephson took the loss for Minneota/Lincoln HI after pitching six innings and striking out 12 batters.

The Wildcats (1-1) are scheduled to travel to Edgerton/Southwest Christian today.

Windom 5, JCC 2

JACKSON -- Collin Lovell pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out 11 batters to lead the Windom Eagles in a win over the Jackson County Central Huskies Monday.

The game was tied at two after four innings before the Eagles picked up a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to sink the Huskies.

Brandon Thongvivong went 3-for-4 on the day for the Eagles, while picking up a double, a triple and an RBI. Travis Janssen was also 3 of 4 with an RBI and a run scored to go along with a run scored by Lovell (2-for-3).

Taylor Christopher took the loss for the Huskies, pitching six innings and giving up three runs on six hits. Tanner Menke went 1-for-2 at the plate for JCC with a triple and an RBI, while Christopher was 1 of 3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Windom (3-0) hosts Worthington Thursday in a doubleheader, while Jackson County Central (1-2) travels to Worthington Thursday.

EDGERTON -- Dominic Nibbelink went five innings with five strikeouts and two walks for the Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen in a loss to the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights Monday.

Neither team scored until the fourth when both squads picked up two runs to tie things at two. The Knights knocked in six runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead, but the Dutchmen fought back with four runs of their own to come within two runs of the lead. However, R-T-R picked up an insurance run in the top of the sixth to lock down the win.

Luke Nibbelink had two hits on the day for the Dutchmen, while Nate Pfiefle had three RBIs in the game. Blake Jouwstra was 2 of 2 with two runs scored to go along with an RBI by Jesse Berning (2-for-4).

The Dutchmen (0-2) are scheduled to host Southwestern United today.
