Prep basketball: Arrow girls find the mark
WINDOM — Pipestone Area got its first victory of the girls basketball season Thursday night with a 66-57 triumph over Southwest Conference rival Windom Area.
Senior guard Libby Schneider scored 23 points to lead the Arrows. Teammates Bianca Claussen scored 14 points and Kelly Nettik 11, respectively. The Arrows, who led by just four at halftime, used solid rebounding and a strong inside game to prevail.
Kelsey Hanefeld scored 20 points and Jasmine Carlson 18 for Windom Area.

SWU 57, Ellsworth 51
ELLSWORTH — Courtney Place scored 39 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Southwestern United to a six-point victory over Ellsworth. The Wildcats trailed 32-27 at halftime but outscored the Panthers 30-19 in the second half.
Alexa Huisman scored 13 points, Heidi Nolte 12 and Alissa Walters 11 for Ellsworth. Hannah Mulder had 13 rebounds. SWU’s Courtney Place scored 37 points, collected a dozen rebounds and blocked five shots. Kailey Wendland had a balanced night to score seven points, grab seven rebounds and dish out six assists. Alaina Klingenberg scored nine for the Wildcats.
Ellsworth converted 19 of 51 field goals for the game and fell to 1-1. SWU improved to 2-1.

Fulda 65, SWC 64
EDGERTON — Visiting Fulda erupted to a commanding 49-27 halftime lead but had to hold on tight in the second half to secure a one-point victory over Southwest Christian.
Melissa Gehl scored 21 points with seven rebounds and 10 steals to lead the Raiders’ effort, and teammate Sariah Cheadle scored 28 points. Myah Holinka had five rebounds and Courtney Tiesler had three assists.
Tianna Top scored 22 points with four blocked shots for Southwest Christian. Kassydi Vreeman and Ann Pater scored 13 points apiece. Pater had nine rebounds and Hope Veldkamp had seven. Alexis Knutson had four assists.
Southwest Christian is 1-1 on the season.

WESTBROOK — Holding Westbrook-Walnut Grove to 15 points in the first half, Red Rock Central rolled over the Chargers.
Brooke Rasmussen scored 18 points for the winners, Rachel Ketl scored 17 and Ramsey Piotter added 15. RRC is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Red Rock Conference.
RRC outrebounded W-WG 46-30.
Dayna Comnick scored 17 points with nine rebounds and four steals for Westbrook-Walnut Grove. Emma Woelber had 11 points and five assists.
The Chargers, who committed 32 turnovers to RRC’s 14, are now 0-4 on the season.

Redwood Valley 48, JCC 40
REDWOOD FALLS —Jackson County Central coughed up a three-point halftime lead and fell to Redwood Valley on the road 48-40.
Allison Curry scored 14 points and Lauren Hansen added 10 for the Cardinals as they worked past the Huskies. JCC junior Kaylee Burmeister scored 15 points to lead all scorers. Sarah Brandt had 12 rebounds in the game for the Huskies.
Turnovers and missed free throws both plagued JCC, who moved to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in SWC play.

Mountain Lake Area 54, Adrian 49
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake Area bolted back from an eight-point hole at halftime to best Adrian 54-49.
The Wolverines had Madelyn Regier (13) and Rachel Dukes (10) scoring double figures to aid the win. Adrian’s Elizabeth Thier scored 20 points. Katie Wieneke added 16 for the Dragons.
Mountain Lake Area improved to 1-1 with the triumph while Adrian fell to 0-3.
