Prep basketball roundup: G-LR’s girls defeat Adrian, Luverne routs H-BC
ADRIAN — George-Little Rock used a ‘heads up’ defensive effort to beat Adrian 64-42 in a girls basketball game played Monday night in Adrian.
The Mustangs had three players score in double figures including Teyha Graham (18 points and four steals), Mia Graham (14 points, four steals and six assists) and Mariah Terhawk (11 points and seven rebounds). Jodi Bents had 12 points to lead the Dragons.
George-Little Rock improved to 2-4 and travels to Sioux Center tonight. Adrian fell to 0-4 and hosts Ellsworth tonight.
“I thought we did a nice job defensively tonight,” G-LR girls basketball coach Heather Grafing said. “We were careless with the ball at times but you have to give a lot of credit to Adrian. Luverne 54, H-BC 21LUVERNE — Propelled by Morgan Haugen’s 19 points and six steals, the Luverne Cardinals outscored Hills-Beaver Creek 54-21 in their matchup at Luverne.Senior forward Tara Sudenga tacked on an additional 11 points for the Cards and six steals for the team. The Cardinals totaled 24 steals on the night.H-BC’s leader was junior guard Madison Fick, with eight points.H-BC falls to 0-3 on the season. and Luverne rises to 4-1 overall. Ellsworth 42, Lincoln-HI 39IVANHOE—Senior forward Alexa Huisman dropped 30 points for the Panthers, leading Ellsworth to a 42-39 victory over Lincoln-HI.Huisman also collected six rebounds for the Panthers, who were led by seven rebounds from Hannah Mulder.Lincoln-HI was led by Brandi Barke, with 12 points.Ellsworth is now 1-2 on the season, and they head to Adrian tonight to take on the Dragons in a Red Rock Conference matchup.Ellsworth 21 42Lincoln-HI 12 39
Emmetsburg 50, Harris-Lake Park 36EMMETSBURG, Iowa —Emmetsburg junior Ashton Connelly scored 20 points to help her E-Hawks past Harris-Lake Park 50-36.The Wolves trailed by 10 points following the opening quarter and wouldn’t recover.Noreen Morrow led H-LP with 14 points and seven rebounds.Harris-Lake Park dropped to 4-4 with the loss.The Wolves are 1-0 in Cornbelt Conference action. Adrian 78, G-LR 77ADRIAN — With only two seconds remaining in the contest, Adrian’s Brady Lonneman drove the lane and sank a perfect layup to send Adrian to a 78-77 win over George-Little Rock.Lonneman totaled 22 points on the night, also collecting 10 rebounds. Taylor Recker added 18 points for the Dragons and Cody Polzine chipped in 14 points.For G-LR, guard Tanner Ver Steeg earned 32 points. Jesse Koerselman collected 14 rebounds and nine points for the Mustangs.G-LR falls to 2-3 on the season, and Adrian rises to 3-5 overall.
