PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Arends, Heronimus score 17 apiece to push Cardinals past Arrows

PIPESTONE -- Matt Arends and Brett Heronimus both scored 17 points Tuesday night, helping the Luverne Cardinals hold on for an exciting 68-64 victory over the Pipestone Area Arrows in a Southwest Conference boys' basketball game.


Matt Overgaard and Josh Slieter scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Cardinals, who led 41-31 at halftime and overcame a late 61-59 deficit in the final minute to earn the win.

Boyer Bouman and Collin Moeller paced PA with 14 points apiece, while Brady Claussen contributed with 10 points for the Arrows.

Luverne (5-1, 3-0) hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Friday, while PA (2-3, 0-3) hosts Worthington Thursday.

JACKSON -- Darnell Taylor-Breck had a team-high 13 points for the Jackson County Central Huskies in a Southwest Conference loss to the Marshall Tigers in boys' basketball action Tuesday.

The Tigers took a 18-point lead into the locker room at halftime and held the Huskies to just 22 points in the second half to secure the win.

Austin Hinkeldey was second on the team with 10 points for the Huskies, while Jon Harmening had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Derek Buysse had a game-high 17 points for the Tigers.

JCC (2-3, 0-3) faces Windom Friday in Windom.

CANBY -- Sparked by 20 points from Zach Nuy Tuesday night, the Canby Lancers knocked off the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in a Camden Conference boys' basketball game.

Michael Sisk (11 points) and Michael Slaba (10 points) also scored in double figures for Canby.

Parker Lanoue led T-M-B with 20 points, as well. Alec Swan scored 12 points for the Panthers (2-2, 1-2), who host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Thursday.

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Eli Ihnen and Colin Brons sparked a dominant win for Harris-Lake Park over Clay Central-Everly in a Cornbelt Conference boys' basketball game Tuesday night.

Ihnen finished with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Brons registered 11 points, five rebounds and four steals to lead the Wolves (8-1, 4-0).

Kade Heikens added seven points, four assists and three steals for H-LP, which plays at Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Friday.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Nic Lutmer ripped the nets for 31 points and pulled down eight rebounds Tuesday night, sparking Central Lyon to a victory over George-Little Rock in a Siouxland Conference boys' basketball game.

Kalen Eckenrod had 10 points and four assists for the Lions, who improved to 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

Tanner Ver Steg led G-LR (1-7, 0-7) with 26 points. Reid Guse added nine points for the Mustangs.

Central Lyon plays at Sheldon Friday, while G-LR hosts Boyden-Hull the same night.
