PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Cardinals hold off Eagles

WINDOM -- Despite trailing by eight points at halftime, the Windom Eagles clawed back in the second half, only to come up two points short in a 58-56 win for the Luverne Cardinals in Southwest Conference boys basketball Friday night.

Luverne, which improved to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the league, made 14 of 25 free throws, while Windom reached the line six times and made three.

The Eagles drop to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Matt Arends led all scorers with 19 points for Luverne, including four 3-pointers and four assists. Brett Heronimus added 10 points, while Matt Overgaard and Alex Weis collected six and five rebounds, respectively.

Collin Lovell led Windom with 18 points and seven rebounds. Jacob Gotto added 13 points and two steals to go with 12 points for Nathan Remmers and Andy Pfeffer's four assists.

Both teams play non-league games next as Luverne hosts Martin County West today and Windom entertains Adrian Monday.

Jackson Co. Central 60, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 47

JACKSON -- Jon Harmening's double-double of 19 points and 21 rebounds helped the Jackson County Central Huskies improve to 8-5 overall with a non-league win over the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers.

JCC's defense tightened in the second half, allowing the hosts to expand a two-point lead at halftime into the 13-point win.

Shadrack Wacker added 15 points and six assists for the Huskies, while Taylor Christopher totaled nine points and five assists and Darnell Taylor-Breck contributed seven points and six rebounds.

Alec Swan led the Panthers with 19 points, four assists and four rebounds, while Parker Lanoue added 12 points and three assists and Josh Kirk grabbed eight rebounds.

JCC travels to Fairmont for a non-league game Monday, while T-M-B (4-7) travels to Prinsburg to play Central Minnesota Christian in a Camden Conference game Tuesday.
