ESTHERVILLE, Iowa -- A stifling defensive performance by Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, along with five touchdowns in the middle two quarters Friday night lifted the Lions to a 35-0 victory over Estherville-Lincoln Central in Class 2A, District 1 football action.

CL/G-LR (3-1, 2-0) held E-LC to just three first downs in the entire game -- one in the second quarter and two in the fourth -- while allowing only 25 yards rushing on 21 carries and just 33 yards passing (on five-of-15) as the Lions intercepted three passes and recovered a fumble.

Josh Hunt carried the football 25 times for an impressive 185 yards, scoring on a seven-yard TD run (2:42 to play in the second quarter) and a 12-yard burst (5:26 left in the third quarter).

Terron Geerdes had a pair of one-yard TD plunges (9:44 in the second and 3:48 in the third) and also booted a pair of extra-point kicks and ran in a two-point conversion after his first touchdown.

Geerdes gained 60 yards on 17 rushing attempts, while Jesse Henrichs carried six times for 48 yards, including a 23-yard touchdown scamper with 17 seconds left in the third quarter.

Matt Nagel, who had three solo tackles, four assists and two sacks in the game, returned a fumble recovery several yards to E-LC's two-yard line to set up one of CL/G-LR's third-quarter touchdowns.

Dalton Ver Beek, Trent Loger and Cole Schleusner each intercepted passes for the Lions, who host undefeated Spirit Lake Friday.

CORWITH, Iowa -- Brady Nissen rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns while also having a return touchdown as the Harris-Lake Park Wolves throttled the Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne Panthers in an 8-man, District 2 football game.

Following a H-LP safety that put the visitors ahead 2-0, Nissen retuned the free kick 50 yards and also ran in the conversion to give the Wolves a 10-0 lead.

Colin Brons (6-for-10 passing for 90 yards, four touchdowns and an interception) tossed a 30-yard pass to Cade Heikens for H-LP's next score with Brons completing to Ryan Mann on the conversion.

Eli Ihnen (three catches for 36 yards) finished the Wolves first-quarter scoring as he hauled in a 10-yard aerial from Brons.

The Wolves outpaced their first quarter scoring with 28 in the second quarter as Nissen scored on runs of 10 and 19 yards, Brons completed a 14-yard pass to Connor Gunderson and Ihnen intercepted a pass and returned it 18 yards to the endzone.

In the third quarter, Nathan Kyle kicked a 26-yard field goal for H-LP and Brons connected with Ihnen for a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Brons finished the Wolves scoring in the fourth quarter with a 32-yard field goal kick.

Defensively for H-LP, Brons blocked two punts and had two sacks, Nissen recovered a fumble and had a sack while Gunderson and Kyle each collected a sack.

The Wolves host North Sentral Kossuth for their homecoming Friday.

SIBLEY, Iowa -- Trailing 7-0 at halftime, the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals countered with two second-half touchdowns to edge the Sioux Central Rebels in a Class 1A, District 2 football game.

Receiver Dillon Thies and quarterback Owen Wiese connected for both scores as the third quarter score went for 17 yards and the fourth quarter score was from 20 yards out.

Wiese finished with 118 yards with the two touchdowns and one interception on a 9-for-18 effort.

Thies caught three passes for 68 yards while Harrison Feldkamp caught three passes for 39 yards.

Ethan Stofferan rushed 28 times for 140 yards for the Generals.

Casey Hertz had 11 tackles (three solo, eight assists) and Josh Earl had 10 tackles (two solo, eight assists) to lead S-O (2-2) on defense.

Also, Kelly Schoneman intercepted a pass while Stofferan and Patrick Coleman each recovered a fumble.

The Generals travel to Pocahontas Friday.

Spirit Lake 42, Sheldon 14

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa -- The Sheldon Orabs suffered their first loss of the season as the Spirit Lake Indians decisively defeated the visitors in a Class 2A, District 1 football game.

The Orabs were held scoreless until the fourth quarter as Hunter McDonald scored on a two-yard run and Logan Otis scored on a one-yard plunge with Zach Kleinwolterink kicking the extra point following each touchdown.

McDonald rushed nine times for 40 yards and caught two passes for 50 yards while quarterback Chris Balster finished with 81 passing yards on a 3-for-8 effort.

Will De Kok and Mitchell McDonald each had two sacks for Sheldon (4-1, 1-1), which hosts Sioux Center Friday for its Homecoming game.
