It is postseason time in Minnesota, where the competitive hill continually steepens. Area teams learned their section tournament pairings on Thursday morning, and games begin on Tuesday evening for most teams, with the second round coming Saturday.

The Worthington Trojans gained the fifth seed in Section 3AAA this year and will have a tough first-round match up against Blue Earth Area on the road, on Tuesday. The Trojans come off of an impressive 26-0 win over Pipestone Area in the seventh week of the regular season and then a 44-23 loss Wednesday night to Jackson County Central. Belle Plaine is the section’s top seed and has a first round bye, meeting the winner of Worthington and Blue Earth.

On the bottom side of the bracket, third-seeded St. Peter hosts Sibley East (6), and that game’s winner travels to second-seeded Fairmont.

In Section 3AA, JCC is the section’s top seed and Maple River is second. JCC hosts eighth-seeded St. James in the first round and advances to meet the winner of fifth-seeded New Richland-H-E-G and fourth-seeded Martin County West. Maple River hosts seventh-seeded Windom Area. That game’s winner will meet up with either sixth-seeded Pipestone Area or third-seeded Luverne.

In Section 3A football, Adrian has a first round bye as the section’s top seed, and United South Central has the same with their No. 2 seed. The Dragons from Adrian will host the winner of fifth-seeded Murray County Central and fourth-seeded St. Clair on Saturday. That first round game between MCC and St. Clair will be at St. Clair on Tuesday night. On the bottom side of things in the bracket, sixth-seeded Red Rock Central goes to Tracy on Tuesday night for a tilt against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

In 9-Man football action, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley stands as the top-seeded team, and they will host eighth-seeded Renville County West in the first round of action, Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Second-seeded Mountain Lake Area hosts Hancock (7) the same night. Third-seeded Edgerton/Ellsworth brings sixth-seeded Fulda to town and fourth-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove hosts fifth-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek.
