PREP FOOTBALL: Pipestone Area beats R-T-R
PIPESTONE - Alex Ossefoort scored three touchdowns and the Arrows' defense stood strong as Pipestone Area shut out the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights in a non-conference Zero Week football game.
Ossefoort opened the game's scoring with an 18-yard run in the first quarter.
The senior back/receiver hauled in a six-yard catch in the second quarter from quarterback Jacob Derby and added another touchdown reception (25-yards) from Derby in the fourth quarter to complete the game's scoring.
Derby passed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on a 10-for-14 effort, while also plunging in a one-yard run for a touchdown in the opening quarter and also added two successful PATs for scores.
Ossefoort was Derby's main target in the contest, hauling in seven catches for 107 yards. Eric Buffington added a six-yard touchdown catch from Derby in the second quarter, while Brady Bos was PA's leading rusher with 87 yards on 19 carries.
The Arrow offense gained 259 total yards, while limiting the Knights to 14 total yards of offense.
Gunnar Manderscheid and Ossefoort each had five tackles in the contest, while Josh Mabon had an interception and Zach Boucher recorded a sack.
PA (1-0) returns to action Sept. 7 when it hosts Windom in a Southwest Conference matchup.
