MADELIA -- Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth scored on its first four possessions and cruised to a 49-8 victory against Madelia in a Southern Confederacy football game Friday night.

Casey VanMiddendorp had 12 carries for 102 yards and three touchdowns, and Kale Leuthold had eight carries for 42 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Patriots, who recorded 401 yards of total offense.

Senior quarterback Chris Luzy went 9-for-12 passing for 146 yards, including a 22-yard scoring strike to Tanner Leuthold.

Terence Reid caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Joel VanBatavia, who also had two interceptions.

Cory Tilstra had eight tackles to lead the Patriots, who will play Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Ellsworth on Friday.

WESTBROOK -- Josh Merrick had 10 carries for 181 yards and three touchdowns to highlight a dominating rushing attack for Westbrook-Walnut Grove, which scored on its first six possessions and racked up 515 yards of total offense.

Merrick had touchdown runs of 2, 34 and 41 yards.

Mason Comnick added 90 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, and Jake Comnick had two carries for 60 yards, including a 53-yard scoring run.

Derek Eichner went 12-for-14 passing for 75 yards, including a 4-yard strike to Jace Jarmer to cap the Chargers' first possession.

Jarmer finished with 33 yards and a touchdown on four receptions, and Eichner added 15 tackles and three sacks.

Aaron Theisen had an interception, and Justin Knakmuhs had 10 tackles and added a sack and a half for the Chargers (5-1), who allowed just 75 yards.

Theo Johnson had a 1-yard touchdown run for W-WG, which will travel to face Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth on Friday.

Edgerton 36, G-H-E/ML 21

EDGERTON -- The Flying Dutchmen scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to overcome a one-point deficit and defeat visiting Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther.

Chace Hulstein scored both of Edgerton's fourth-quarter touchdowns, on runs of 3 and 35 yards, and finished with four scores on the night.

The junior running back rushed 16 times for 175 yards, including a 74-yard scoring run on Edgerton's first possession of the second half.

Jordan Gunnick returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter, and Hulstein scored on a 2-yard plunge with 20 seconds left in the first half to knot the score at 14-14 going into halftime.

Alex Heard went 11-for-20 passing for 201 yards, and Pat Kleinjan had four receptions for 114 yards for the Flying Dutchmen, who finished with 417 total yards.

Hulstein, who added a sack, had three receptions for 38 yards, and Marty Van Peursem had four catches for 49 yards.

Brady Timmer had a team-leading 15 tackles, and Kleinjan had 13. Alex Elgersma added two and a half sacks to lead Edgerton, which held G-H-EC/ML (4-2) scoreless in the fourth quarter and allowed 374 yards of total offense.

Edgerton (5-1) will travel to face Alden-Conger on Friday.

Southern Minnesota RRC 18, ML/B-O 14

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Jake Fredrickson scored on a 10-yard run midway through the fourth quarter to lead Red Rock Central to a come-from-behind victory over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.

The Falcons trailed 14-0 at halftime but responded with 18 unanswered points to earn their first victory of the season.

"We dominated in the first half, but they made some adjustments at halftime and found our weak spots," ML/B-O coach Tim Kirk said. "We're a young team, and we have a bunch of injuries. We kind of went into our shell, and they came out and played power football. We couldn't overcome."

The Falcons overcame three lost fumbles and two interceptions to score a season-high 18 points.

Josh Falk had both interceptions for ML/B-O.

The junior running back also had a 79-yard touchdown run.

Steven Herrig had six rushes for 67 yards and a score. He also went 7-for-17 passing for 38 yards to lead the Wolverines (0-6), who recorded 239 yards of total offense.

RRC will host Renville County West, and ML/B-O will host Springfield on Friday.

Springfield 13, SWU 7

SPRINGFIELD -- Ben Scheevel threw for 120 yards to lead Southwestern United, but Springfield proved too much in a Southern Minneosta Conference football game Friday.

Scheevel threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Cory Pelzel (three catches, 23 yards) in the third quarter to tie the game at 7-all, but Springfield scored again in the fourth for the victory.

Mike Stenzel had 28 yards rushing to lead the Wildcats (3-3, 2-1), while Jamison Collin had 80 yards receiving on three receptions.

Stenzel had 12 tackles, while Andrew Rossow had eight tackles and recovered a fumble. Jake Smith had six tackles and a sack for SWU, which will host Wabasso in Heron Lake Friday.
