PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Brueggeman hits 3's in Wolves' comeback against Clay Central

EVERLY -- Miranda Brueggeman made three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Harris-Lake Park Wolves come from behind to defeat Clay Central-Everly 52-48 during a girls basketball game Tuesday.

The Wolves trailed at the end of the first three quarters, but were able to use solid free throw shooting and a pressure defense to come out on top by the end of the game.

Grace Winters led Harris-Lake Park with 12 points, while Brueggeman ended up with 10 points on the night. Noreen Morrow led the Wolves in rebounding with nine to go along with nine points in the game.

Clay Central-Everly's high scorer was Emily Jobst, who picked up 17 points against Harris-Lake Park.

The Wolves (12-6, 8-1) can claim first place in the Cornbelt outright with a win Friday night when they host Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in Lake Park.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Lexi Ackerman scored a game-high 23 points for the Central Lyon Lions in a win over the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals Tuesday.

The Lions held a six point lead with 4 minutes left in the first half before going on a 12-0 run to close out the second quarter.

Kori Schulte was second on the team in scoring for the Lions with 18 points in the game, while Sarah Halse had nine rebounds.

The Generals were led by Bridget Doeden who had 12 points on the night to go along with 10 points by Kayla Ackerman.

Central Lyon (18-2, 14-2) travels to George-Little Rock Friday, while Sibley-Ocheyedan (8-11, 7-9) hosts Boyden-Hull Friday.

SLAYTON -- Cassandra Hook scored 18 points, while going 8 of 8 from the free-throw line to lead the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers to a win over the Murray County Central Rebels Tuesday.

The Rebels took a two point lead into halftime, but the Panthers took the lead in the second half and used sharp free throw shooting to hold off the Rebels.

Kelli Soupir had 16 points for the Panthers, while Jenna Stoneberg added 11 points in the game.

The Rebels' Taylor Schreier had 15 points and six assists in the game, while Jenna Ness added 12 points. Jade Giese picked up 11 points to go along with eight rebounds by McKenzie Schmitz and Morgan Behrends.

The Panthers (9-8, 5-5) travel to Luverne Thursday, while the Rebels (7-8, 6-5) take on Mountain Lake Area on Thursday in Mountain Lake.

NORTHROP -- The Mountain Lake Area Wolverines scored a layup with 16 seconds left to claim a victory over Martin Luther Tuesday.

The Wolverines trailed by six at halftime, but was able to create points off turnovers in the second half to stay within striking distance at the end of the game.

Paige Brown chipped in 13 points and six rebounds for the Wolverines, while Peters also had five rebounds in the game.

Martin Luther was led by Amber Schulz with 16 points and also got 12 points from Savanah Krenz.

The Wolverines (9-8, 4-5) host Murray County Central Thursday.

JACKSON -- Gina Hauge had a game-high 15 points to lead the Windom Area Eagles to a come-from-behind win over the Jackson County Central Huskies Tuesday.

The Huskies led by six at halftime, but missed key layups down the stretch to allow the Eagles to claw their way back into the game. Windom Area also went 12 of 19 from the free-throw line to seal the win.

Rachel Sorenson was second in scoring for the Eagles with nine points on the night.

Angela Handzus was the leading scorer for the Huskies with nine points and four steals, while Kaylee Burmeister added with points, five rebounds and three steals. Lydia Brandt picked up 10 rebounds for Jackson Count Central.

The Eagles (10-8, 5-3) travel to Redwood Valley Friday, while the Huskies (8-13, 2-8) take on Martin County West on the road.

Lincoln HI 47

WESTBROOK -- Paige Erickson led the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers past Lincoln HI with 32 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday.

The game was tied at 21 at the end of the first, but strong play by Erickson and strong defense in the second allowed the Chargers to pull away.

Kelsi Wahl had 10 points and five steals in the game for the Chargers, while Mady Johnson had seven points and four steals.

KaLea DeSmet led Lincoln HI with 14 points, followed by 11 points from Morgan Citterman.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (7-10, 5-6) heads Southwestern United on Thursday.
