PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Erickson has 30 points as Chargers top Panthers

ELLSWORTH -- A 30-point effort by Paige Erickson powered the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers past the Ellsworth Panthers 54-46 in a Red Rock Conference girls basketball game Friday.

The Chargers took a five point lead into halftime and pushed the lead to eight by the end of the game.

Erickson also led the team in rebounds with 10 to go along with six steals and two assists for W-WG. Elizabeth Woelber added 10 points and five assists, while Kelsi Wahl had eight rebounds.

Alissa Walters had a team-high 14 points for the Panthers to go along with 11 points by Bridget Kramer and eight points by Alexa Huisman.

The Chargers (3-4, 3-2) and the Panthers (2-6, 1-3) both head to the Mountain Lake Area Tournament Thursday, with W-WG taking on the Wolverines, while Ellsworth faces Truman/Martin Luther.

Fulda 73, Edgerton 39

EDGERTON -- Brittney Hermeling and Melissa Gehl both had 18 points for the Fulda Raiders in a 34 point victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen Friday in a Red Rock Conference girls basketball game.

The Raiders ended the first half with a 35-18 advantage and never let the Dutchmen back in the game.

Gehl also had 12 rebounds to complete a double-double, while Hermeling had five assists for the Raiders. Amanda Schumacher added 12 points to go along with 10 points by Rachel Cheadle. Sariah Cheadle dished out five assists in the game.

Tanner Gunnink led the Dutchmen with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jessica Menning was second in scoring with eight points, while Tara DeKam had nine rebounds and Sarah Post added six assists and three steals.

The Raiders (7-1, 4-1) head to Windom to face Blue Earth Area in the Windom Area Tournament Friday, while the Dutchmen (0-7, 0-5) travel to Marshall to take on Ortonville.

SLAYTON -- Morgan Behrends picked up a double-double (13 points, 15 rebounds) for the Murray County Central Rebels in a win over the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots Friday.

The Patriots trailed 13 at halftime and were unable to muster enough offense in the second to make a comeback.

Taylor Schreier was second in scoring for the Rebels with 11 points and two steals, while Jenna Ness and Jade Giese both had nine points. Ness also had nine rebounds and two steals in the game.

Paige and Meghan Leuthold both had 10 points for the Patriots, while Haley Van Wyhe added nine points.

MCC (3-4, 3-2) travels to Edgerton on Jan. 3, while H-BC (4-4, 2-3) hosts Adrian on the same day.

Wabasso 70, Adrian 38

TRACY -- Courtney Vaske led the Adrian Dragons with 11 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Wabasso in the opening round of the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Holiday Tournament Friday.

Wabasso led by 10 points at the half. The Dragons committed 33 turnovers in the game which led to fast breaks for Wabasso.

Kim Frank led Wabasso in scoring with 19 points.

The Dragons (6-2) play in the third place game of the tournament tomorrow against the loser of the game between Red Rock Central and T-M-B.

Okoboji 44, S-O 35

OKOBOJI, Iowa -- Kayla Ackerman led the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a loss to Okoboji Friday.

The Generals had a 10 point lead heading into halftime, but Okoboji came out with a hot hand in the second to take the win.

Bridget Doeden and Brooke Grimes both had nine points for S-O, with Grimes also having four steals.

Okoboji's leading scorer was Abby Taylor, with 16 points.

The Generals (5-5, 4-5) host the George-Little Rock Mustangs Jan. 4.

TERRIL -- Noreen Morrow posted a double-double (21 points, 15 rebounds) for the Harris-Lake Park Wolves in a win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayshire Friday.

The Wolves led by just three points in the first quarter, but the offense woke up in the second to give H-LP a 39-22 lead at halftime. From there, the Wolves cruised to a 13 points victory.

Miranda Brueggenman was second in scoring for H-LP with 13 points, while Mariah Gath added 10 points.

Leading G-T/R-A was Brooke Hoffman, who had 16 points in the game.

The Wolves (7-3, 3-1) host the George-Little Rock Mustangs Thursday, Jan. 3.

SHELDON, Iowa -- Lexi Ackerman picked up 20 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds and five steals to help the Central Lyon Lions breeze by the Sheldon Orabs Friday.

The Lions took an 11 points lead into halftime and used a 22-point burst in the third to blow the game open.

Second in scoring for the Lions was Kelsi Ackerman with 13 points followed by Kori Schulte with 12 points.

The Orabs were led by Krista Bousema, who had 21 points and Emily Johnson with eight points.

CL (9-1) heads to Rock Valley Jan. 4, while Sheldon (3-6) hosts Boyden-Hull on the fourth.

GEORGE, Iowa -- Taylor Carstensen led the George-Little Rock Mustangs with 22 points and nine rebounds in a 27-point victory over Boyden-Hull Friday.

The Mustangs led by nine at halftime and used solid defense to keep B-H's offense quiet, while their own offense opened up the game.

Abby Eben had seven rebounds and five steals for G-LR to go along with another six steals by Teyha Graham.

Boyden-Hull was led by Kaylee Van Voorst, who picked up 10 points on the night.

The Mustangs (7-4) travel to Harris-Lake Park on Jan. 3 to take on the Wolves.
