PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Gehl lifts Raiders over Arrows

FULDA -- Melissa Gehl made a free throw with 6 seconds left in the game to give the Fulda Raiders a 35-34 victory over the Pipestone Area Arrows in a non-conference girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

After Gehl made her free throw, the Arrows moved the ball up the court for a last second shot, but missed the game-winning basket from 15-feet out.

The game was tied at 18 points apiece heading into halftime and would have gone into overtime had Gehl not made one of her two free throws at the end of the game.

Gehl led the Raiders with 14 points and six rebounds, while Rachel Cheadle added 10 points and eight rebounds. Brittney Hermeling picked up five points and led the team in steals with five.

Kelly Nettik had a team-high 10 points and eight rebounds for the Arrows.

Fulda (6-1, 3-1) heads to George-Little Rock Thursday as part of a boy-girl doubleheader, while Pipestone Area travels to Worthington Thursday.

Sioux Falls Christian 58, Southwest Christian 51

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Even with three players in double-digits, the Southwest Christian Eagles could not overcome Sioux Falls Christian in non-conference girls' basketball action Tuesday.

Amber Pater led the Eagles with 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals, while Kelly Tinklenberg added 11 points and seven rebounds. Jennifer Schmidt was the last SWC player in double-digits with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Savannah Tinklenberg picked up eight points and five rebounds for the Eagles to go along with nine rebounds and five steals from Hannah Van Dyke.

Sioux Falls Christian was led by Hailey McCaron, who had 21 points in the game.

SWC (4-3, 3-0) hosts Minneota Thursday.

W-WG 49, Edgerton 33

WESTBROOK -- Paige Erickson had 12 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three assists as the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers took down the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in a Red Rock Central girls' basketball game Tuesday.

The Dutchmen trailed by just five points heading into halftime, but the Chargers defense picked up its game in the second, allowing just 11 points.

Elizabeth Woelber had 10 points for W-WG along with five rebounds, while Dayna Comnick added 10 points and seven rebounds. Kelsi Wahl put up eight points and five rebounds and Abby Herding added another five points.

Sarah Post led Edgerton with 12 points, while Tara DeKam had six points.

The Chargers (2-4, 2-2) travel to Ellsworth Friday and the Dutchmen host Fulda Friday.

JEFFERS -- Murray County Central built a 40-20 halftime lead and claimed a victory over Red Rock Central in a Red Rock Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Jade Giese led MCC (2-4, 2-2) with 14 points and four steals, while Morgan Behrends (14 rebounds) and Taylor Schreier each scored 12 points. Haley Bose pulled down eight rebounds for the Rebels.

Fern Engen paced RRC (0-6, 0-2) with 13 points, six rebounds and four shot blocks. Tegan Derickson (10 points), Melanie Kedl (six rebounds) and Brooke Rasmussen (six assists) were the other statistical leaders for the Falcons.

MCC hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Friday, while RRC takes part in the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Holiday Tournament the same night.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- A huge double-double of 20 points and 16 rebounds by Janessa Peters led the way for Mountain Lake Area Tuesday night in a non-conference win over St. James.

Paige Brown and Rachel Dukes scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, for MLA (4-2). Whitney Klassen dished out four assists.

Julia Beckius led St. James (1-5) with 15 points.

MLA hosts a holiday tournament on Dec. 27 and 28.

COMFREY -- Courtney Nelsen led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points Tuesday night, as Cedar Mountain/Comfrey claimed a 10-point victory over Southwestern United in the third-place game of the CM/C Holiday Tournament.

Andrea Ochs and Haley Weidman each scored 11 points for CM/C, which stretched a 23-18 halftime lead into the final 49-39 margin.

Courtney Place led SWU (1-7) with 17 points and six rebounds. Sarah Baumgard posted seven points and seven rebounds, while Kailey Wendland had six points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats.

SWU is off until Jan. 3 when it travels to play Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Noreen Morrow's 17-point, 13-rebound double-double paced Harris-Lake Park to a victory over Clay Central-Everly Tuesday night in a Cornbelt Conference girls' basketball game.

Mariah Gath contributed with 14 points, three assists and two steals for H-LP, which is now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Wolves play at Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Friday.

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Lexi Ackerman scored 21 points, dished out nine assists and came up with four steals to lead the Central Lyon Lions to a 15-point victory over the George-Little Rock Mustangs in a Siouxland Conference girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Kori Schulte scored 18 points for the Lions, who led 57-36 with four minutes remaining. Kelsey Ackerman added 13 points, as Central Lyon improved to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference.

Taylor Carstensen and Jessica Sandbulte led G-LR (5-4, 4-4) with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Central Lyon plays at Sheldon Friday, while G-LR hosts Boyden-Hull the same night.

HULL, Iowa -- Bridget Doeden produced 21 points and eight rebounds to help trigger Sibley-Ocheyedan's victory over Boyden-Hull Tuesday night in a Siouxland Conference girls' basketball game.

Kayla Ackerman charted eight points, eight assists, five rebounds and five steals for the Generals, who led 23-12 at halftime. Michaela Wolter collected four steals for S-O.

The Generals (5-4, 4-4) play at Okoboji Friday.

ELLSWORTH -- Bridget Kramer had a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double Monday night, as the Ellsworth Panthers claimed a non-conference victory over the Lincoln HI Rebels.

Alexa Huisman also had a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), while Hannah Mulder pulled down 14 rebounds for the Panthers.

Ellsworth (2-5) hosts Westbrook-Walnut Grove Friday.
