LAKE PARK, Iowa -- The Harris-Lake Park Wolves edged the Southwestern United Wildcats 40-37 in a non-conference girls basketball game Monday.
Macy Gunderson knocked down a 3-pointer with 1, minute, 52 seconds left that gave the Wolves a 38-37 lead. Miranda Brueggeman then sank a layup after H-LP broke through SWU's full-court pressure late in the game to seal the victory for the hosts.
Gunderson scored 11 points to lead the Wolves, while Noreen Morrow added 10 points. Katherin Ihnen and Mariah Gath grabbed 10 and nine rebounds, respectively, for H-LP, which made 15 of 38 free throws.
Courtney Place, whose last-second desperation shot was off the mark, led the Wildcats with 13 points and seven rebounds. Kailey Wendland added nine points for SWU, while Sarah Baumgard (six rebounds) had eight points and Sonja Peters (six rebounds) scored six points.
Harris-Lake Park (1-1) returns to action tonight with a game at Storm Lake, Iowa.
Southwestern United (0-1) hosts Mountain Lake Area on Thursday.

PAULINA, Iowa -- Kayla Ackerman scored 14 points and Bridget Doeden totaled a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals to a non-conference girls basketball victory over the South O'Brien Wolverines on Monday.
Alyssa Stofferan added 11 points for the Generals, who improved to 1-1.
Michaela Walter dished out five assists, while Ackerman and Stofferan each had four helpers for Sibley-Ocheyedan, which hosts Sheldon tonight.
