With the Wolves stuck on three points during the first 3½ minutes, the Tigers took a five-point (8-3) lead behind Karina Heynen's drive and two free throws and a pair of baskets from Nicole Gritters.

But Harris-Lake Park stepped up its defense, getting stops on Trinity Christian's end. It led to the Wolves making a 21-2 run that saw H-LP take a 24-10 lead with 5 minutes left in the first half.

"It probably wasn't one of the better games that we have played because of our ups and downs and we didn't take care of the basketball very well" Wolves head coach Jenni Spooner said. "In the second quarter, our defense caught fire and that led to quite a few of our 3's after (Trinity Christian) put a box-and-1 (defense) around Mariah [Gath]."

Despite leading 25-23 in turnovers, H-LP won the rebounding battle 30-26 and held a 12-6 edge in assists.

Harris-Lake Park closed the first quarter by scoring the final nine points. Bailey Heikens began the run with a layup before Macy Gunderson scored in transition and Mariah Gath drained a 3-pointer and a jumper from inside the lane.

The Wolves led 12-8 after 8 minutes until Rochelle Kooiker turned a steal into a transition layup for Trinity Christian with 7:34 left before halftime.

Then, Harris-Lake Park continued its scoring explosion by posting the next 12 points.

Noreen Morrow (18 points, 10 rebounds, six steals) used a layup to give the Wolves a 14-10 lead before Heikens hit a running jumper, Gunderson hit a left-corner 3-pointer, Morrow put back an offensive rebound and Gath capped the run with a left-wing 3-pointer.

The Wolves outscored the Tigers 18-0 from 3-point range as Gath (14 points), Gunderson (10 points) and Miranda Brueggeman knocked down two 3-pointers apiece.

Harris-Lake Park was also able to use effective ball movement to find open shooters.

"The more we move the ball around, more people can move, cut through the lane or get open," Morrow said. "It frees up the lane for Grace (Winters) or Mariah (Gath) can get her 3's going. Once she gets a hot shooting touch, Miranda and Macy get involved. It just builds into a team effort from there."

The Wolves won the second quarter 24-7 to take a 36-15 lead at halftime. Despite the Tigers scoring the first seven points of the third quarter, Harris-Lake Park still had a 14-point lead, which ballooned to 20 points (49-29) on Gath's jumper from the lane with 5:44 left.

Kooiker was Trinity Christian's main source of production. She had team highs in points (18), rebounds (eight), assists (seven) and steals (three) before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Gritters chipped in eight points.

The Wolves (14-6) advanced to the Class 1A Girls Basketball Regional 1 Tournament quarterfinals against No. 1-ranked Central Lyon (20-2) at Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Tuesday.

The Tigers completed their season at 6-15 overall.
