WASECA —The Worthington girls soccer team had a tough loss against Waseca to finish its season.

Final scores, more often than not, don’t do a game justice, with this match being no different. The final score in Tuesday’s section tournament match was 15-0, but WHS head coach Emily Ahlquist said the girls really played with heart and spirit —even when everything was going against them.

“We have really good attitudes on our team,” Worthington head coach Emily Ahlquist said. “The girls really kept their spirits up, no matter what the score was.”

Waseca scored its first three goals all within the first five minutes of the start of the match.

“They have a really strong and disciplined team. Their forwards all have really strong legs with really good crosses, and they just kept beating us over and over again.”

Freshman attacker Breanna Karsten scored four goals for the Bluejays, and eighth-grader Taylor Hiller added three.

The Bluejays outshot the Trojans 33-4 in the match.

Even though the girls’ season just ended, Ahlquist is already looking to the future.

“Next year we have to put more emphasis on physical training, and not so much on skills,” Ahlquist commented. “We also are going to try to get the girls together in the summer to play together and gain more experience.”

When it comes down to it, the girls need to play together more.

“We can’t just play together for two and a half months out of the year.”

“If we don’t play together regularly,” said Ahlquist, “there’s no way we can compete.”

Worthington 0 0 — 0

Waseca 6 9 — 15
