The New Ulm boys won by 22 strokes over runnerup Fairmont in the four-team competition. And the Jackson County Central girls won by 40 strokes over second place Fairmont.

Abby Brinkman led the Huskies with an 18-hole total of 82 strokes as her team advanced to play in the Section 3AA tourney Thursday at Buffalo Lake.

The top team and the top five individuals not on the winning team earned the right to advance from the 3AA South event.

“They played pretty well,” Jackson County Central head coach Keith Eggink remarked about his girls. “There were some girls I thought could’ve shot a little bit better, but overall I thought they were doing very well. We were putting well today.

“Some had a poor first nine. But, mentally, they hung together and had a good back nine.”

Emily Kim of Fairmont was girls medalist with a 79. Her teammate, Cassidy Krusemark (98) also advanced. New Ulm advanced Corrinne McKeeth (92) and Julia Schaefer (101). Also advancing was Lindsey Haler of St. James (103), who won a playoff with New Ulm’s Kendra Clyne to get the final spot.

Brinkman was one of Thursday’s more consistent golfers, putting up identical rounds of 41 on the way to her 82. Teammate Abby Benson recovered after a 49 to card a 39 on her next round for an 88 total. Other JCC girls’ scores included Alison Benson 93, Emma Lilleberg 92, Lexie Hoffman 96 and Emmalie Benson 101.

The JCC girls totaled 355 strokes. Fairmont had 395, New Ulm 413 and St. James 446.

New Ulm’s boys had a 311 compared to Fairmont with 333, JCC 341 and St. James 395.

Kelton Schmitz shot a 75 for the New Ulm boys. Ethan Kraus and Tanner Zupfer each had 77, Colin Hoffman shot an 82, Jonah Cooper 84 and Peder Johnson 85.

Fairmont advanced Mitch Pfingsten (77), Joe Nordquist (80) and Sam Havnen (85) to the sectional tournament. Jackson County Central advanced two: Joe Brinkman, with an 80, and Austin Olson, with an 85.

Jack Ringkob scored an 86 for the Huskies while teammates Kyle Christopher and Kyle Kapplinger both had 90, and Chris Baker came in with a 96.
