Prep golf: Luverne takes sweep over Adrian

LUVERNE — The weather made it far from being a good day to be out on the course Monday, but Luverne’s Mark Spreiter made the most of it anyway.

He shot a 39 despite the less-than-stellar conditions to help the Cardinals to 165-190 win over Adrian. On the girls’ side, a 46 for Makayla Sterrett made a big impact as Luverne finished the night with a 197-199 win to take the nonconference sweep.

Spreiter’s 39 earned him medalist honors amongst the boys. He was joined in the scoring effort by Chaz Smedsrud and Blake Stegenga — both of whom finished with a 41 — along with Cole Walgrave’s 44.

Ben Henning and Ryan Elias led the Dragons when each carded a 47. Collin Kemper and Tommy McCarthy were right behind in a tight-knit pack as they came in with just one more stroke.

Sterrett edged out Adrian’s Katie Wieneke to bring home the top score of the day with Sterrett coming in at 46 and Wieneke at 47. Madison Crabtree (49), Hailey Remme (51) and Hannah VerSteeg (51) rounded out the Luverne total.
