WORTHINGTON — Madison Crabtree carded a 48 and Colton Arends shot a 39 to win medalist honors for the Luverne Cardinals Tuesday in a dual golf match with Worthington at the Worthington Country Club.

It was a cold April day that affected both teams. It seemed to affect Luverne less, however.

Arends, a junior, was the only golfer to break 40. Teammates Chaz Smedsrud had a 42, Spencer Riphagen a 43 and Cole Walgrave a 46 as the Cards totaled 170 strokes on the boys’ side compared to Worthington’s 183.

Will Mulder led the Trojans with a 44. Jake Weg weighed in with a 45 while Tyler Van Hove and Nathoe Vorasane each had a 47.

“The long game was not on today,” said WHS boys head coach John Koller. “And we could not recover from our errors.”

Meanwhile, the Luverne girls carded a 216, just five strokes better than the Trojans’ 221. Complementing Crabtree’s 48 was Hailey Remme and Hannah Ver Steeg, both with 53s, and Mira Uithoven with a 62.

For Worthington, Becca Christensen and Ashley Hoefker both had 54 strokes. Tyree Murray had a 55 and Anneke Weg a 58 to round out the Trojans’ team scorers.

Despite the fact that it was a tough day for the WHS boys, Antonio Martinez carded a solid 49 in junior varsity competition.
