Prep golf: Marshall sweeps Fairmont Tournament

FAIRMONT — Marshall won both ends of the Fairmont Invitational high school golf meet Saturday. The girls carded a 347 score to win by 20 strokes ahead of runnerup Windom Area’s 367 in the 11-team field at Rose Lake Golf Course. And the Tiger boys hit a 310 to outscore 14 other teams at Interlaken.

The Worthington boys placed seventh as a group, but Will Mulder enjoyed a very good day with a 77 that placed him fourth out of 82 golfers. Tyree Murray led the Worthington girls with a 107.

Jackson County Central finished third among the girls teams with a 378. Next was Mankato West with 403, St. Peter 414, Fairmont 422, Luverne 430, Worthington 451, New Ulm 461, Blue Earth Area 464 and Pipestone Area 528.

Marshall’s 310 on the boys’ side was ahead of New Ulm with 329, Mankato West 334, Fairmont and Redwood Valley 341, Luverne 344, Worthington 353, Martin County West 3545, Jackson County Central 356, St. Peter 359, North Union 378, Blue Earth Area 396, Windom Area 397 and Pipestone Area 424. Mountain Lake Area was incomplete.

Ashley Hoefker had 111, Selina Hua 114 and Becca Christensen 119 to round out the Trojans’ scoring in the girls event. Kelsey Hanefeld and Maitland Vollan had 89 and 90 strokes, respectively, to pace the strong Windom Area outing. Makayla Sterrett and Madison Crabtree had 93 and 94 strokes, respectively, for Luverne.

For the Worthington boys, Jake Weg and Tyler Van Hove followed Mulder with a 91s. Nathoe Vorasane had a 93, Jaren Solt a 99 and Ben Koepsell a 107. Mark Spreiter led Luverne with an 82. Joe Brinkman with a 79 and Jack Ringkob with a 90 led JCC. Kyle Antes had a 93 for Windom Area. Aaron Walzak had a 79 for Mountain Lake Area.
