ADRIAN — Will Mulder has a new driver, and he used it for the first time Monday.

And it did its job, too, said Worthington High School boys golf coach John Koller. Mulder, who carded a very solid 77 over 18 holes Saturday at Interlaken in Fairmont, produced a medalist’s round of 38 Monday at a triangular meet in Adrian.

“He’s hitting the ball really long. And when he hits ‘em straight it makes those par fours a pretty simple game,” Koller said.

Worthington won the boys meet with a 161. Murray County Central was next with a 168, followed by host Adrian with a 177.

It turned out to be a fine day all around for the Trojans. Worthington’s Selina Hua was medalist in the girls’ meet with a 41, and teammate Tyree Murray tied with Marissa Veld of Adrian for second place individually, with 45s.

Adrian won the girls competition with a 186. Worthington had 191 strokes and MCC had 239.

“Pretty solid top to bottom,” was how a pleased Koller described the Trojan boys’ effort. Tyler Van Hove weighed in with a 40, Jake Weg had a 41 and Nathoe Vorasane totaled 42. Ben Koepsell’s 43 was his best score of the year.

For MCC, Grant Everson had 40, Adam Christensen 41, Tyler Groves 42 and Jack Pierson 45. Adrian was led by Ryan Elias with 40, followed by Ben Henning with 43, Collin Kemper with 44 and Brady Henning with 50.

Complementing Veld for Adrian was Makenzie Wagner with 46, Katie Wieneke with 47 and Alexia Kemper 48.

Anneke Weg had 52 for Worthington and teammates Becca Christensen had 53, Ashley Hoefker 54 and Erika Schutte 56.

For MCC: Liz Prahm had 47, Hannah Davis 48, and Destinee Miranowski and Paige Behrends 72 apiece.

RRC at W-WG

Abby Herding carded a remarkable score of 38, set a new Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls golf school record and led her team to a 202-247 victory over visiting Red Rock Central.

Herding’s 38 was nine strokes better than the next-best score of 47 turned in by teammate Avoree Bakken and 20 strokes better than the best scores turned in by Red Rock Central (Maria Johnson and Courtney Teveldal, both with 58s).

Red Rock Central won the boys competition 193-202. Zach Kircher of RRC was medalist with a 44. Teammates Carter Engen (48) and Cole Baumann (49) helped the cause. For W-WG, Hunter Gilb had 49, Brandon Pacholl 50 and Trey Kockelman 51.
