Prep golf: Trojan sweeps triangular
SANBORN — Worthington swept the girls and boys golf meets here Friday, with the girls outscoring Red Rock Central 213-261 and the boys totaling 173 strokes to RRC’s 217 and Mountain Lake Area’s 217.
Selina Hua led the WHS girls with a 46. Tyree Murray had a 52, Anneke Weg a 56 and Becca Christensen a 59.
Maria Johnson had a 59 for Red Rock Central and Hannah Sell carded a 60.
Kaitlin Oeltjenbruns shot a 60 for the incomplete Mountain Lake Area team.
The Worthington boys were led by Will Mulder with a 41. Nathoe Vorasane was close behind with a 42. Tyler Van Hove and Jake Weg rounded out the scoring with 44 and 46, respectively.
Carter Engen had a 52 for RRC. Teammates Zach Kircher, Cole Baumann and Parker Tordsen all had 55s.
Aaron Walzak of Mountain Lake Area was the medalist with a 38.
Worthington boys golf coach John Koller said he was pleased with his players’ scores.
“Our scores have trended down this week. The goal is to get into the 160s. And I think if we can eliminate just a few bad holes we can do that.”
JCC at Windom Area
WINDOM — A fifth-place score broke a deadlock and gave Jackson County Central a victory over the Windom Area boys. Both teams scored 172 points.
Ryan Clark of Windom Area was medalist with a 38. Teammate Kyle Antes had a 41.
For JCC, Joe Brinkman was the top scorer with a 40. Andrew Torgerson had a 43 and Jack Ringkob a 44.
JCC also won the girls meet, and it was also close — 182 to 183. Abby Benson shot a 43 for JCC and teammate Abby Brinkman shot a 45. Allison Benson, Lexie Hoffman and Emmalie Benson all had 47.
For Windom Area, Mainland Vollan and Leigh Hanefeld each shot 45s. Kelsey Hanefeld had a 46.
