Prep golf: Windom Area, Luverne golfers split
WINDOM — In high school golf action Tuesday, the Windom Eagles girls team overcame the Luverne Cardinals 195-221, and the Cardinals beat the Eagles on the boys side on a score of 173-183.
The top four golfers for the Windom girls were Kelsey Hanefeld with a 45, Maitlan Volland with a 49, Marissa Cartwright 50, and Miki Bolin with 51. For the Luverne girls, Makayla Sterrett shot a 49, Hailey Remme shot a 54, Madison Crabtree shot a 57 and Mira Uithoven shot a 61.
On the boys side, Luverne was led by Blake Stegenga with a 39, Chaz Smedsrud with a 44, and both Colton Arends and Travis Frakes with 45. For Windom, Dylan Pigman shot a 41, Ryan Clark shot a 42, and Tanner Diemer and Nathan Luitjens shot a 47 and 53, respectively.
MCC, RRC at Fulda
FULDA — At the Town and Country golf course, the Murray County Central boys took first place, and the Fulda girls took first place in an area competition comprised of both the boys and girls teams from Fulda, Murray County Central and Red Rock Central.
For the Fulda girls, Brittany Leinen shot a 49, followed by Caitlin Strenge with 54, Katie Reynolds with a 58 and Claire Westra with a 52. Fulda finished with a score of 221. Both the MCC girls team and the RRC girls team were not scored due to having an incomplete team.
On the boys side, MCC finished on top with a team score of 167.Adam Christensen and Grant Everson shot a 39, Tyler Groves shot a 43, and Jaden Boerboom shot a 46. For Fulda, Cole Dierks shot a 49, Brandon Everett shot a 50 and Justin Dierks shot a 52.
Fulda shot a team score of 196. RRC brought up the rear with a team score of 229. Carter Engen led with a score of 53, Max Miller finished with 57, Zach Kircher totaled 58 and Parker Tordsen shot a 58.
