Prep Golf: Windom golfers nip Worthington twice
WINDOM -- The Windom Eagles golf teams swept the Worthington Trojans in both the boys and girls divisions on a rainy Friday afternoon.
"We just didn't play very well today," WHS coach Ron Wood said. "It was cold and miserable out, but both teams were playing in the same weather and Windom played better."
On the boys' side, the Eagles beat out the Trojans by four shots (178 to 182) with Windom's Kyle Antes recording a 42 for the lowest score on the day.
"The boys didn't play too well at all," Wood said. "But in the end we only lost by four strokes, so if we had just gotten shaved off a few more points we might have been able to get the win."
Will Mulder had the lowest score for the Trojans with a 44, while Alex Kremer and Jacob Woll both shot 45s. Tyler VanHove rounded out the top four scorers for Worthington with a 48. Seth Meier and Mitch Weg tied for last on the team with a 49.
On the girls' side, Kate Lesnar was the low medalist with a 40, but the Trojans lost to the Eagles by nine strokes (187 to 196).
"I think we just weren't cutting the ball all that well," Wood said. "We didn't have a lot of focus throughout the meet."
Lesnar was followed in the top four scorers for the Trojans by McKenzie Hurley (49), Morgan Harberts (53) and Genna Putnam (54). Tyree Murray shot a 61 and Kia Veen finished with a 63.
"Like I've said before, we want to have at least three girls in the 40s in every meet and we weren't able to do that today," Wood said.
Kelsey Hanefeld had the lowest score for Windom with a 43.
The Trojans (boys 4-4, 1-2; girls 5-1, 2-1) and the Eagles are scheduled to travel to Fairmont today for an invitational.
