SLAYTON -- Senior Ashley Clarke threw a no-hitter to lift Murray County Central to a 6-0 girls softball victory over Southwest United Monday, dropping the visitors to 3-9 on the spring campaign.


Clarke walked just two batters in the complete seven-inning victory and struck out three. She also homered in the game.

Ida Rogers-Ferguson was the losing pitcher. She allowed four MCC hits, walked no one and struck out five.

Errors hurt Southwest United. The Wildcats committed four miscues, and only two of MCC's six runs were earned.

EDGERTON -- Tianna Top and Breanna Nelson each pitched seven solid innings to help lead the Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen to a doubleheader sweep over the Luverne Cardinals in non-conference softball action Monday afternoon.

Top struck out 12 batters and walked just one in the opener, while Nelson recorded eight strikeouts and issued four walks in the nightcap for E/SWC.

Jessica Menning went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Flying Dutchmen in the first game. Nelson and Kameron Kroh each had two hits and an RBI.

Tanner Gunnink was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in the second game for E/SWC. Tara DeKam was 3-for-4 with a trio of RBIs, while Menning (two RBIs) and Kroh (double, RBI) added two hits apiece.

Luverne's Ellen Dahl (eight strikeouts, no walks) pitched a complete game in the opener and also went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Tara Sudenga had the Cardinals' other base hit.

Kaitlyn Roberts (four strikeouts, three walks) pitched seven innings for Luverne in the nightcap. Kristen Reisdorfer belted a two-run home run, and Emily Robinson was 2-for-3 for the Cardinals.

E/SWC (8-4) travels to play Mountain Lake Area in a doubleheader today, while Luverne (8-8) visits Pipestone Area for two games today.
