ELLSWORTH — Carly Byrne allowed just two hits in her start and Worthington’s bats did the rest.

Betsy Thompson, Becca Thompson and Liz Hayenga all had three hits for Worthington, which scored multiple runs in four different innings. Thompson and Allie Bruns both hit home runs while Brooke Henning drove in three.

Jackson County Central Tournament

JACKSON — Jackson County Central ended the day with a 1-2 record at its home tournament Saturday, picking up a victory over St. James.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, that win was sandwiched around losses to Brandon Valley and St. Peter.

The day opened with an 8-1 loss to Brandon Valley as JCC just couldn’t get its bats rolling. Kathryn Nasby was 2-for-4 with Moira Carlson and Jordian Tirevold both finishing 2-for-3.

Kelsey Kannenberg struck out three in the loss.

The Huskies hung a 5-spot on the board in the fifth inning of a 7-6 triumph over St. James in their second contest of the day.

Brittany Woodke and Blaney Markman both had two hits with two and one runs scored, respectively. Carlson added a 2-for-3 showing during which she drove in three. Kannenberg got the win, allowing just one hit over 3 1/3.

The home team couldn’t quite sustain that momentum, however, as it dropped an 8-3 decision to St. Peter in its final game of the day.

The game was tied at 3-all going into the bottom of the fourth, but the Saints got things rolling after that, scoring two in the fourth and three in the sixth to pull away.

Nasby was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Markman came in at 2-for-3. Kannenberg went the distance in the loss.

Luverne 14-17, Windom Area 0-9

WINDOM — Luverne put on a hitting clinic Saturday in its Southwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Windom Area. The Cardinals took wins of 14-0 and 17-8.

Luverne’s Ashley Olson and Brooke Thielbar both smacked home runs in the opener to lead the Cards to a strong game at the plate. Ellen Dahl was the beneficiary as she got the win, allowing just three hits and striking out 12 in the process.

Meghan Vesey took the loss for the Eagles. She, Sutton Dewanz and Alyssa Fast all had hits.

Erica DeBoer went 4-for-5 with a homer and 6 RBIs in the nightcap. Olson added her second homer of the day.
