Prep track: JCC boys, MCW girls strong at Mountain Lake

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Darnell Taylor-Breck flew to a 23.05 clocking to win the 200-meter dash, leading the Jackson County Central boys track and field team to victory in the Wolverine Invitational meet Friday.

Martin County West was first in the girls team standings.

JCC finished with 140 points on the boys’ side. Mountain Lake Area was second with 105 points, followed by Martin County West 98, Windom Area 93, New Ulm Cathedral/Minnesota Valley Lutheran 54, Springfield-Comfrey-Cedar Mountain 36, Adrian 26 and Southwestern United 8.

Windom Area’s Victor Ogeka was impressive in winning the triple jump with a leap of 42-10.5. Taylor-Breck placed second at 42-9.

Martin County West had 139 points to win in the girls’ standings. Mountain Lake Area scored 104, Jackson County Central 89, Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral 76, Springfield-Comfrey-Cedar Mountain 54, Windom Area 47, Southwestern United 28 and Adrian 21.

Though the Adrian girls brought up the rear in team standings, Nicole Slater looked good in the 1,600-meter run with a 5:20.71.

Southwestern United’s Rachel Salentiny won the 3,200 meter race in 12:27.8. And the Mountain Lake Area girls relay team won in impressive time, 4:17.8.
