PREP VOLLEYBALL: JCC, Windom, T-M-B battle it out at JCC tournament
JACKSON -- The Jackson County Central Huskies valleyball team finished in second place in their home tournament Saturday after falling to Minneota in the championship game.
The Huskies breezed through pool play, defeating Rochester Century 25-13, 25-16, then taking down Red Rock Central 25-15, 25-13.
With the first place finish in their pool, JCC moved on to the Gold Division to face Rochester Mayo. The Huskies beat Rochester Mayo 25-12, 25-20 to make it to the championship game against Minneota.
JCC lost the first set 25-22, but came back to take the second game 25-20. But in the end, Minneota proved too much for the Huskies, taking the last set 15-11 to win the championship.
JCC plays Sept. 24 in Fairmont at 7:15 p.m.
Windom takes third
The Windom Eagles volleyball team took third place in the Jackson County Central Tournament Saturday.
The Eagles first game came against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, which they won 25-11, 25-22.
Windom's second game was against Mankato East, who they beat 25-16, 25-15 to win their pool and move onto the Gold Division.
In its first Gold Division game, Windom lost to Minneota in three sets, 16-25, 25-13, 15-12. With the loss, the Eagles went on to play for third place against Rochester Mayo.
The Eagles beat Rochester Mayo in three sets, winning 25-20, 18-25, 15-12.
Windom's Shelby Mattson went 32-for-34 on the serve with three aces, while also picking up 18 kills, 43 set assists, 10 digs and seven blocks. Holly Larson added eight blocks for the Eagles to go along with her 33 kills.
Hali Tasler (49-for-50, five aces) helped out on offense and defense by smashing 24 kills and making 34 digs for Windom. Jasmine Carlson also had 49 digs.
The Eagles host the Fulda Raiders tonight in Windom.
T-M-B splits four games at JCC tournament
The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers volleyball team won two-of-four games in the Jackson County tournament Saturday in Jackson.
The Panthers lost 25-11, 25-22 to the Windom Eagles in their first game and then lost 25-22, 25-23 to Mankato East in the second game of pool play.
T-M-B then went on to play Martin County West, winning 19-25, 25-11, 15-8. The Panthers then played Red Rock Central, winning 25-8, 25-13.
Sammie Gervais led the way for the Panthers, going 25-for-26 on the serve with nine aces, while also picking up 20 kills, two blocks and 20 digs on the day. Kassidy Przymus added 13 kills and 24 digs, while Cassis Hook had 20 digs and 47 set assists.
T-M-B travels to MACCRAY Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
