PREP VOLLEYBALL: SWC takes top seed in Section 3A tourney
WORTHINGTON --Southwest Christian's recent surge to the top of the Red Rock Conference helped the team take the No. 1 seed when the section 3A South volleyball tournament bracket was announced.
Southwest Star Concept -- the team that had held the RRC lead throughout most of the season until the Eagles took over -- earned the No. 2 seed. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton was named the No. 3 seed.
All three of the top seeds received byes in the first round of the tournament.
The opening round will feature five matches to be played Oct. 24, with all contests scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
No. 8 Adrian will host No. 9 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the opening round, No. 5 Red Rock Central will host No. 12 Hills-Beaver Creek, No. 4 Westbrook-Walnut Grove will host No. 13 Round Lake-Brewster, No. 7 Fulda will host No. 10 Edgerton and No. 6 Murray County Central will host No. 11 Ellsworth.
The winners of the opening round will join the top three seeds in the Section 3A South quarterfinals in Luverne on Oct. 28. The semifinals will then be played in Luverne on Nov. 1, with the final to be played Nov. 3 at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
The south bracket champion will then face the champion of the north bracket at SMSU on Nov. 5 in the Section 3A final, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Minneota holds the No. 1 seed in the north, Canby is the No. 2 seed, MACCRAY is No. 3 and Central Minnesota Christian is No. 4.
